With its intense aroma and rich, slightly spicy taste, Thyme is one of our favorite herbs! It goes well with fish, meat, sausages and make tasteful marinades! Add it in your salad combined with olive oil for a Greek flavor.
Its name ”Thymos” (in Greek) derives from the ancient Greek world “thyo”, meaning sacrifice. It was greatly recognized in Ancient Greeks and healers used to stimulate brain function, along with honey and vinegar. Both the Romans and Greeks used it in their baths to gain energy and courage and Alexander the Great used it during his campaigns as lice-killing.In the 16th century they used to treat melancholy by filling the patient’s pillows with crushed thyme leaves.

In the modern area Thyme is used by the pharmaceutical industry on numerous occasions, mainly because of its concentrations of thymol and carvarol. And its antibacterial and antiseptic properties. Also, it has a lot of vitam K, manganese, calcium and iron.Thyme is an amazing herb, with all its health benefits, it has been flavoring Greek cuisine since antiquity. It goes well with fish and meat and its ideal for delicious and fragrant marinades and salads! Although it can be used as a substitute for oregano in various dishes, its best use is to complement it.

The reason we use it so often is the fact that thyme gives dishes a flavor that’s not easy to achieve with any other herb and it goes well with almost everything.

    Tips for how to use thyme:

  • Add it just a few minutes before your meal is ready, or right after you close the heat. Your meal will smell like heaven!
  • Try adding some dried leaves to your salad
  • When you baking you bread, try to put some dried thyme leaves in the flour
